The air around Terra was chilly, but warm enough not to raise goose bumps on her bare skin. Her eye lids felt heavy, it was hard to open them like they were glued shut. Slowly her senses where coming back, she could just make out the soft sound of swaying grass. Was she lying on the grass? She could feel the soft pricks of the bent grass ends against her skin. The heavy smell of green earth filled her nose, yes it is grass! Everything felt heavy like she was weighted down by lead. She had to open her eyes, slowly she worked them open. Pitch black outside face down in a patch of grass, how did she get here? The last thing Terra could remember was a heavy feeling of sadness and heat, heat like nothing she had felt before. What had happened? Where was she now? Why did she feel like she had been in bed for the last two years? But the most important question of all. Why in the world is she butt naked, except for her boots, gloves and goggles!

She was somewhere in the forest in the middle of the night, in a tall section of grass surrounded by trees. Things where slowly coming back, she could see flashes of images in her mind. Most importantly she needed to find something to wear. Slowly and carefully testing her body and her muscles flexing different ones, Terra slowly turned over into her back, wincing as she did. Getting to her feet, slowly and leaning heavily onto a tree for support while her legs got used to holding her up. Pins and needles traveled up her legs as she rubbed out the kinks in her muscles. Trying to cover her body as best as possible with what foliage she could find, she started towards the city. What city was she even in? What had happened? She could remember flashes of heat and feeling drained. Did she hurt someone? No, she didn’t think so, or if she did she didn’t feel very bad about it. It felt good to walk, get the kinks out.
The city is quite, not a single person around. Terra made her way towards the edge of the city, hoping to find a garbage can containing some clothing stores garbage anything would be better then Ash tree branches. There wasn’t a whole lot around; Terra did not want to wander too far into town where someone could notice her, she carefully made her way through the back alleys. The alleys where dark with little to no street lights, after a few blocks she finally found her way to the back of a large shopping mall. Making sure no one was around Terra climbed into one of the cleaner dumpsters. To her surprise she found a bright yellow t shirt with only two holes in it. Further into the dumpster she found a pair of black baggy draw string sweats, one size to large, pulling on the shirt then the sweats. Terra looks down at herself.

“Good enough for me.” She mumbles to herself as she ties the pants tight to herself.

Where could she go? The forest seemed to be the best bet, maybe there was a clue there as to what had happened. She wandered back through the alleys, slower this time taking in anything that might give her a clue as to what city she was in. Back at the forest she flopped down onto the grass looking up at the stars, this is where she had woken up. She had almost two hours until sunrise. Why now? Why here? Of all places a grassy patch with trees. Closing her eyes taking a deep breath in and trying to remember what had happened. Was she on a team, the Teen Titans? Yes that was it, she had hurt everyone let them down. They had even offered her a second chance and she blew it.
A lump forms in her throat; she did something terrible she could feel it. How many people had she hurt? Slade, the name tasted bitter in her mouth, she had sided with him. She would always regret that. Just to get a handle on her abilities, she would not use them again. Or it would be a long time until she did. Why did she have to mess everything up? No she didn’t mess everything up, just the important things. There was heat, a tear rolled down her check. She remembers now almost destroying her friends; Beast Boy pleading her not to let Slade control her. They had gotten out safe though; it had been so hard to leave them. Her powers had triggered a volcano, large enough to destroy the city and everyone in it. She curled into a ball on the grass trying to be as small as possible. She had turned to stone herself to stone, she had become one with the volcano. She should still be stone, frozen in time she deserved it, how could she face the Titans now, if they even wanted anything to do with her. With that final thought lingering in the back of her mind, Terra fell into a fitful slumber.

Clark fell from the sky with a yell of confusion, and he landed on top of a trash can in an alleyway, flattening the object. He stood up with an instinctive groan—it didn’t hurt, but some habits never died. Running a hand through his hair, he looked around. He was in Gotham, of that much he was certain. But it was strange—one moment he wasn’t there, the next moment he was. He hadn’t even been flying toward Gotham, he had been on his way to his mother’s house in Kansas. It didn’t make the slightest bit of sense. He’d tried to get into the city before, when it initially disappeared, and when Lois and some members of the Justice League had vanished, but was unable to do so. Why was he able to get here today without even trying?

Why had he fallen? He had been flying, and then it had felt like something had thrown him, and then he’d landed here, in this Gotham alleyway. He never fell unless something pushed him, and he had neither heard nor seen anything that was capable of pushing him. He had been alone in the heartland of the country, flying over farmland, and now he was inside a huge, sprawling city that had seemingly vanished from the face of the earth. He had a funny feeling in his gut about all of this, but for the moment, he ignored it. He needed to find Lois and the others. Unslinging the bag he’d carried on his arm, he took out a shirt, pants, shoes, and a tie and hurriedly pulled them over his uniform. He finished by sliding on his glasses and parting his hair on the other side before picking up his bag and leaving the alleyway, feeling like taking a walk for once.

He’d been to Gotham before so he had a general idea of where he was. He figured that he should get a hotel room—since he had no idea how long he was staying—and then head over to Wayne Manor. Bruce would know what was going on—unless something had happened to him. That would explain why he hadn’t contacted the League. The city itself seemed intact, but he had been unable to get in contact with anyone inside the city. Was the city suffering from a blackout? Obviously not, since all the lights were on.

He checked in at the front desk of the least expensive hotel he could find in Gotham and then ascended the stairs to his room. It was smaller than his dorm room at college, and only had a bed, an old-fashioned looking television, and a small desk and chair. Well it’s something. I doubt I’ll be getting much sleep anyway. He couldn’t sleep peacefully until he found Lois and figured out what was going on. He unpacked the few things he had with him and pulled out his communicator—his one link with Watchtower. “Watchtower, this is Superman.”

No answer.

“Watchtower, come in. This is Superman. I’ve reached Gotham and am trying to get into contact with Batman.” he repeated, rubbing his temples. There was again, no answer. Frowning, Clark took out his cell phone and dialed Diana’s number. But, like the communicator, he was unable to get an answer—or even a message from the answering machine. He tried the phone on the desk, which also didn’t work. He sat down on his bed, dropping the cell phone and communicator and holding his head in his hands. How were they going to get out of this mess? He changed into his suit again and left his glasses on the desk before opening the window to his room. He jumped out the window and soared into the sky like a rocket and then jettisoned himself north. To the naked eye, he’d appear to be a red and blue blur. He kept flying with the intention of leaving the city, and from what he saw below it seemed as if he’d reached the outskirts.

Hal was glad that his patrol was boring and uneventful it felt like a nice change of pace from all the crap and doom and gloom he had to put up with in past few months. First all the lanterns come out of the woodwork then the dead rose and tried to kill everyone then came the moments of peace followed by a war of the Green Lanterns where the Alphas tried to kill everyone who was not a mindless robot, yeah fun times to be had by all and what capped the party off was now he was assigned to work with his old mentor turned war criminal turned redeemer as an official Green Lantern. Hal made a mental note to bring this up at the next Guardian meeting cause something was off with those blue dwarves.

Hal and Sinestro were assigned to mop up the remaining Sinestro Corps members on Korugar and see to the planet’s independence and not let them kill their former despot in the process not that it wasn’t something wouldn’t enjoy a ringside seat for but because he was “under orders” to keep that pink idiot alive. After taking care of the bulk of the corps we were into the mopping up phase now and Hal had suggested splitting up to cover more ground and get out of here quickly. Hal lamented letting Sinestro go off on his own but he didn’t want to be here forever and if they were going to leave any time soon they needed to cover more ground as fast as they could and if someone happened to kill Sinestro while he was out of Hal’s care then Hal could just say it was his idea and he went off on his own.

They were supposed to be there for a few weeks but it looks like they were taking a lot longer than expected. Hal could understand people were scared but the Green Lanterns even Sinestro. Hal hadn’t seen him in months but Hal wasn’t worried because as long as Sinestro was a good boy things were dandy. Hal then heard an update on the ring’s channel from Oa. Apparently people from Kougar were vanishing into thin air.

Hal was stumped now how does a whole group of aliens just vanish? How the hell was that possible? The ring had no luck locating them in the whole quadrant and if he left…then it hit him. There was no way all these people could have left the quadrant unless it was on a ship and the ring would have informed him if there was a ship nearby and even if there wasn’t no way a ship was that fast. ”Ring scan for any and all temporal or special distortions.” If there was a wormhole or something open or recently open nearby Hal would bet dollars and donuts that these people were there. ”None detected.” Damn, so much for that theory.

Hal continued flying as he tried to think of any other way these people could have just vanished without a trace. Cloaking tech? No there are none that are advanced enough. Sabotage? Possible but unlikely since the rings are defended against attack. As Hal continue to think he nearly ran into a skyscraper, banking left he avoided it and then stopped and looked at the building. Wayne Enterprises? What the hell was he doing in Gotham and how did he get here from Korugar? ”Ring is this Gotham City on Earth?” The analysis came back almost immediately. ”Affirmative.” Finally something goes right with this thing today but it still begged the question how he got here.

Hal began to fly upward toward the sky and as soon as he reached maximum height he nearly hit another skyscraper. Now he was confused because he went all the way into the thermosphere and what should have been open space and ended up back where he was. Something is very weird here. Hal began to explore “Gotham” and see if he could find any familiar faces and hope they had an answer for why he has landed in the Twilight Zone.

“Think about your aunt, Wally !!!” The Flash yelled to Kid Flash as they both stood there glaring at the grand barrier that held Gotham within it. “I have to get in there” Kid Flash said clenching his fist ready to punch the barrier down if he had to. “You made a promise to everyone!!! You said you would give up on trying to get in there! I tried to run through there on my fastest speed! It didn’t work, you know it, you saw it.” The Flash said holding Wally’s shoulder. Wally had promised his aunt he would stay home more, and stop with his crazy talk of experiments. Yet soon after he got back on it, he started trying again. His aunt was beyond worried for him but he didn’t look back on her. But this trying to reason with Kid Flash must have made him snap. He took off faster than anything Flash had seen himself. But he wasn’t heading away, back to keystone city but to Gotham. The Flash shook his head, the Kid wouldn’t make it. But like that, he was gone through the border, Barry’s eyes widened and he tried five times to get through, trying to go as fast as the kid did before him but he couldn’t….. He just couldn’t. What was he going to tell Wally’s aunt?

*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*

Barry Allen’s head arose from his deep dark nightmare. He looked around, wiping the slowly dripping sweat from his face. He turned off the alarm and looked at the time. “One - thirty A.M.” it read. “Oh no.” Barry thought to himself. Iris had been staying over at his apartment because of Wally’s sudden disappearance. But he was always late to get home, which always made her mad. He took out his phone and called a taxi. In total it took him forty - five minutes to get home. Barry rose in the elevator and came to floor 7. He walked to room 748 and opened the door. He didn’t feel like doing anything other than taking off his shoes and crawling into bed, next to his girlfriend Iris. He laid into bed and touched down on the area Iris usually slept in. He was longing for her warm body but couldn’t find it.

“Iris? IRIS?!” Barry yelled from his bed. He was fully awake now. He clapped his hands and the apartment lights turned on. She was not anywhere in there. Barry stopped at the desk. There was a note with his name on it and a key. Written on it was Barry’s worst nightmare, Iris was gone, she left him. Barry couldn’t stand to be himself right now. He was torn. He sped up his fist to a fast motion and pushed the paper till nothing was left. He had to find her and tell her everything, it was the only way to fix it. He had to tell her about Wally.

Without caring that he was not in his hero costume, Barry Allen rushed out of his apartment window at a super fast speed. His first stop was her apartment. Without fumbling for a key, Barry phased through her door and searched the apartment, she wasn’t there. He didn’t know what to do.

He sped to the police station he worked at. Knowing she would be mad at him, Barry installed a GPS chip in Iris’s phone, for safety reasons, If someone for out that The Flash was Barry Allen and kidnapped Iris, it would be devastating for him. He found her last location, “In the hallway of his apartment floor” and it moved till it got to the outer ring of the barrier surrounding Gotham, then it stopped and shut off. The computer screen started beeping “NO SIGNAL” “NO SIGNAL”. Iris was in Gotham, so Barry had to get in there also.

Barry Allen sped back to the very hallway Iris was in but nothing happened. He gave up. He collapsed to the floor and started bawling, he couldn’t save his love and she would never know the truth. His icy blue eyes produced hot clear tears that pooled on the floor. Barry thought back to Wally, he didn’t give up so why should he? Barry sped back to the barrier and without stopping crashed right into the border. But he didn’t crash, he was in. He looked to the skies and saw the light in the sky, calling for Gotham’s Dark knight. Barry made it, he made it to Gotham, now the challenge was to find Wally and Iris.

Ready, set.. Go!

Bart leapt from his starting position, taking some long strides to hopefully gain some sort of a lead against Wally. He didn’t get why The Flash would wanna race him, but either way, Bart intended to win. He loved running. He did it everywhere. And it was even better when he was racing against something, or in this case, someone. Bart never really raced against anyone but his dad back in the 30th century(or would that be forward in the 30th century?), but it wasn’t ever a real race because a dad was supposed to let their kid win. And that was exactly what his dad did. Now wasn’t a good time to get distracted though. Focus, Bart. He and Wally never, ever got along, and it would be way too crash if Bart could actually beat his “rival” in a race. Especially since his “rival” is his mentor. And a student finally beating his mentor is always super crash.

Running over the Atlantic Ocean, Bart could hardly see Wally behind him. Was there some complication? Or did the eccentric boy not notice the man pass him? If it was the latter, he’d have to keep going. No freaking way was he going to lose to Wally. He didn’t even have Speedster blood! It was through some kind of like, radiation thing. Or something nuclear. Or something. Whatever. Bart deserved to win. Especially since it’d be super freaking crash to be able to gloat that he beat Wally in a race. I mean, how many people get to say that? Not very many.

An hour managed to pass before Bart could see Central. Or, what he figured was Central. He still wasn’t too used to the city. Plus, he had just been around the world. His inner GPS was still recalibrating. Was he winning? Was he ahead? Was he really going to beat Wally, The Flash?! Excitement ran through the boys body, causing him to vibrate. Wait, no. Calm down, Bart. Wouldn’t want to get all “molecular jelly” and not have a terrific win. That wouldn’t be very fetch. Wait, was anyone even in the city? Bart had been in the city for a few seconds now, and there wasn’t anyone around. And there was still light out. Why wasn’t anyone out and about? This was so weird. He would stop, but beating Wally was way more important than where everyone in the city had gone. It was still creepy though..

“Did I win, Wallers?!” Bart crossed the finish line, looking for his competition. “Wally?!” He wanted to make sure Wally wasn’t around. That Bart had truly, honestly, beat The Flash at a race around the world. Sitting down to catch his breath, Bartholomew waited for his mentor to finally come around. 5 minutes passed.. 10 minutes passed.. It seemed like ages had passed before Bart jumped up. “Where the hell is Wally?” He muttered to himself, looking around. The Speedster wasn’t that slow.. Was he? No, not possible. Or else Barry wouldn’t let that thing take his mantle. No way. Bart’s grandpa wasn’t that dumb. Or, is it isn’t? You know, since this is the future Barry he’s referring to.. Whatever. It’s all crash. Doesn’t matter. Taking one more look around, Bart remembered how there was hardly anyone in the city when he was passing by. Maybe he should investigate? As soon as that thought entered his mind, Bart was off towards the city.

It was way too cray. Like, when he really stopped to look at things, this wasn’t Central at all. At all. Where was he? Something was flying in the wind. Something.. A newspaper. Bart grabbed at it, trying to read for any kind of clue. There were big letters bolded at the top. Bart clenched the paper, trying to remember how to read. G. Guh. Go. Got. Goth. Gotha. Gothuh. GOTHAM. Gotham.. Why the hell was he in Gotham?!

Graduation from high school was behind Cassie, and her mother was forcing her to think about the future, getting in the applications for university and filling in those scholarships. The same old lecture she was given when she started her senior year about how being a hero wasn’t all that life had to offer, she needed to buckle down, figure out what direction to go into because you just never know what may happen. The school brochures sat on the table as Cassie shovelled another spoonful of cereal into her mouth. She knew deep down her mother was right, when was her mother ever really wrong? Putting the spoon in the now empty bowl she reached out to grab a pamphlet. Her grades were alright, she could have done a little better, got that GPA right up there, she never had the time, and school work was always second. The blonde shrugged setting the pamphlet down and get up placing her bowl and spoon in the sink to be cleaned later and headed up to her room.

As she walked pass the small TV she pressed the little on button and listened to the news. Next she checked her cell phone for any messages, she sighed as the little icon said zero. She pressed down on the button till the screen turned black and stuffed it in her pocket. Her blue eyes fell to the TV watching the boring news that told her the same thing every day. They were no closer to solving the mystery that kept Gotham lost to the world. A frown tugged at her lips as she put on the steel bracelets, least she could do today was do a little patrolling. Grabbing the black wig and tucking in her long blonde hair she quickly became Wonder Girl. She walked back over to the TV turning it off before she opened her window and took off. Sure her mother left an hour ago but leaving though her window seemed much more rebellious.

Taking off into the sky she felt the same satisfying feeling she always got, a freedom like when a sixteen year old got their first car, there was nothing better than feeling the wind against her skin as she flew to the top of the city skyline. She turned to face the direction of one of the main cities, there was always something going on in big cities. Cassie took off at her high speed, the wind whipped at her skin and clothing causing Cassie to reach up to hold the wig in place, some days she wondered why she even bothered it was more trouble than it was worth. Really who cared if people knew Cassandra Sandsmark was Wondergirl.

Just in front of her was the tall buildings of the big city and she turned herself in order to avoid flying right though them. The large windows reflected her image back at her, every now again she caught a glimpse of people in an office staring at the girl who was flying and simply smiled and gave them a wave. She began to lower herself closer to the busy streets, slowing down so she could hear and see the people better. Her attention always went to banks, back allies, the normal places that people usually caused a scene at. Everything just seemed to go on as normal, nothing stuck her as odd. She went and landed in a quiet street deciding walking was not going to kill her.

Hands stuffed in her pocket as she weaved in and out of walking pedestrians as they continued on their daily lives, A sigh escaped Cassie, it was going to be quite the long day at this rate, maybe she started to early, maybe evil did take a break between the normal working hours. Maybe she would need school in the fall in order to keep herself busy and out of trouble like her mother wanted. She turned down the street knowing there was a Coffeebucks not far, her blue eyes on the concrete below her. When she looked up to make sure she didn’t miss the turn she stopped. The street in front of her made no sense, did she take a wrong turn, no, she knew the streets well, she walked them many times, she could not be lost.

Cassie looked around, everything was different, even the way she came, also everything seemed darker, as if clouds were in the sky. She took off up into the sky, the very sky that just a while ago was clear and sunny, but not dark. Wait, she knew that darkness, she seen it before, it was plastered all over the news, it was all any one talked about. She stopped once high enough and slowly began to turn, and with every building she saw it sank in more and more, she was in Gotham. Dread suck into her stomach, a feeling of fear and panic raced in her as Wayne towers stood in the background. She reached for her phone, her fingers dialling the one number in the entire world that meant something to her, but there was nothing but static on the end, she went to call Diana, but again nothing.

Slowly dropping her altitude till her sneakered feet touch the ground she pocked the phone and just looked around her. Here she was in Gotham City, and here she was all alone, she had no idea where to go, she didn’t know who was around to even try and get into contact with. Cassandra for the first time in years felt alone, felt lost, felt unsure of herself.

Sun barely crested the edge of the horizon, as Jaime rose into the still, night darkend sky. Clouds whisped past his blue and black armored face creating dew drops to form as he rose ever higher then angled himself horizontally to head home. There was a silence that very few others understood, a silence that only came with knowing there was another voice in your mind, that could have been speaking. It was bliss that Jaime rarely got to enjoy these past few months, and even now, he did not enjoy it. His mind was furious, at the breaking point with his permanent back pack. So much had lead up to this turning point, not all of it in anger, but near to none of it spent in joy.

There had been a few moments of exhilaration as Jaime developed his skills and the abilities of his suit. Who would not enjoy the test drive of flying blue armor, with a plasma and sonic canon, lethal power blades, and a new favorite, the staple gun. Really, what other hero had that in the back pocket, staples were the new cool. Well, at the least that was his opinion. It was not all fun and games though, he was learning the whole ‘super hero’ thing, was a lot harder then previously assumed. Seeing as the suit wanted action, he was not allowed to back out of It either, or dare he face the rather of a nag worse than his mother.

Balancing his education, friend, family, and fighting bad guys till they were as black and blue as he was, did not make for a relaxed state of mind. Jaime put on a good front though, able to convince his friends everything was alright, and managing to keep his family of his back for dropping grades. His dad seemed to buy the line “sorry I was distracted by this girl..” all to much. Still he knew they were growing ever more suspicious, and Jaime was finding it ever harder to come up with reasons for the out bursts of talking to himself, his sister still called him crazy. Jaime almost wished he was crazy, cause you could go to therapy for that. He had high doubts there was a ‘robot beetle bonded to my spine anonymous’ groups.

Today had been all to common a morning, starting at only a few minutes past one. He really needed to discuss with the scarab that getting up that early was not such a good practice when your host required sleep to function. Tuning in to a radio frequency the robotic insect had over heard a hold up at a near by airport, some lunatic was holding up the place with some random home made laser cannon. Seriously did no one have anything better to do than secretly work on their laser cannons? Get a job. Woken by the call from within his own mind Jaime had rolled over, and to this day wished that had been the end of it.

Of course, it wasn’t even close to the end. The suit decided if Jaime would not get up and change, then it would do it for him. Starting the painful process while the youth lay trying to go back to sleep. Jaime was getting used to this surge of burning electric waves, sent over his nervous system. So, he decided to give some attitude, trying his best to prevent the suit from winning. Rolling around on his bed “let the damn police take care of it..” he argued but in the end knew that he was not going to win this. ‘THUD’ and it was settled, Jaime lay on the floor glaring at the roof as if it where his own back. His entire body clad in the armor that emanated from his spine, with the exception of his left foot. “You win…” he croaked in a tired breath “…just make it quick I have a test tomorrow” he gave in and the last of his visible flesh was encased.

It had been a long enough flight, listening to the reports through the frequency the scarab had tapped into. Three hostages, one man hospitalized, and two planes badly damaged. How exciting, was not one of the thoughts that graced the tired teens mind. Upon arrival, he started the fight off, with a full on blast to the chest, knocking him hurtling into a grounded Cessna. Three planes wrecked, he sure hoped this place had random lunatic vs hero insurance. Pulling himself from the wreckage he groaned loudly, not out of pain, but more so the barrage of corrective measures his suit barked at him. “Will you shut up, I just got here..” he growled and looked up just in time too avoid shot number two. Darting up into the air where he could better evade the lasers, without risking injury to those below. ~Plasma cannon is your best course of action. Vaporize the target~ Jaime rolled his eyes “No, there are people tied up behind him, I can’t risk missing, and besides VAPORISING ANYONE IS A BAD IDEA” his arm was clipped by shot thirty two and he spiraled down crashing into the mess that was wrecked plane number two from earlier that night. Again another angry lashing from his inner demon, and again Jaime ignored aggressive action. “We don’t have to kill him” he shot out of the wreckage barreling directly at the forty five year old inventor. Catching the man off guard and knocking him into a wall. The human male slumped to the ground from the impact. Blue beetle stood and rubbed his head still fighting with the early hour, even with his heart racing in his chest. Sure on night one the adrenaline had gotten his mind going to the point sleep was pointless, but on day five he was feeling far to worn down. “Look, I told you! You can’t solve problems by blasting everything to kingdom come!” he turned to the hostages and walked over to unbind them. ~Your methods are risky, and you do not properly evaluate the situation~ the scarab stated simply. “But I get the job done!” he sniped “and nobody…”~laser heat signature detected, TURN~. Jaime glanced back in time to see the gun pointed at him, first instinct to move. Jumping out of the way he landed on his butt only to watch the dodged lazer fire pass and strike down one of the pilots taken hostage. “…died…” he finished his scentance as shock froze the scene, the blast had indeed killed the one man, the resulting explosion injured the other two. As second nature Jaime got to his feet and before a second shot was fired, he had the inventor plastered to the wall in blue staples. For once feeling such an anger in him, that he thought he and the scarab bonded on a certain level.

His staple gun lengthened and a power blade formed as he approached the squirming man, only visible by his kicking feet and wreathing head. “P..please don’t hurt me…I never meant do do that..I never meant to hurt anyone..I..I just..Please!” he begged for murcy, but even in his anger Jaime could not hurt the man. Instead he sliced the canon into as many bits as he could, the police feeling safe enough to approach, rushed to the injured civilians. Jaime had no words, not a straight thought in his mind, so once again he avoided the police and took to the sky, leaving them to sort out how to get the criminal off of the wall.

Wiping the condensation from his covered face Jaime took in a deep breath and watched the sun start to peak. Some one had died, because he was to careless. What kind of hero would let that happen, how could he even call himself a hero? He was just some kid with a bigger gun than most, he had no training, no mentor. As much a threat as he was a savior, how do you bounce back from that.

~You should have killed him~ came the all to hated voice “How dare you!..I mean..its our fault he even killed some one!” ~Correction, it is your fault, had you vaporized him when I..~ “Oh no you don’t, don’t put this on me, we could have taken that hit, and you saw him in the end, he never wanted to kill!” he snapped pausing in mid flight, hovering so that he could focus on grilling his hitchhiker. “If you maybe came up with better ideas then kill kill kill…maybe we would have figured out a better plan, I am sick of you treating me like a free ride, learn to deal with it, my body, my rules!” he hollered into the night air. He was met with silence.

~Turn around!~ “No, you know what, didn’t you just hear me!” he said after the quiet was broken. “You don’t get to just tell me what to do okay! Not without explanation, I am a partner not a quarter charged pony ride! So until you start respecting my body and my thoughts, there will be no more late night gallivanting.” ~TURN AROUND~ it shouted loud enough to rattle and echo through his mind, then he heard it, like a constant thunder drawing ever closer. “What is that?” he asked defend by the noise, to the point he could not even hear what he had just said. Turning, his face paled behind the blue mask as he only had a few seconds to think ‘oh…that’.

The plane hurtled at him, full speed, unable to see a dark blue and black speck in the night sky. Even with the sun breaking the horizon. Blue beetle only had a moment to shoot up a few feet, missing the wing by a hair, but getting caught in the back draft of air, sucking him down and spitting him up, tumbling through the cold night. The worse part was to come though, as he struck the tail of the plane with his shoulders and tumbling over the rest falling, motionless into the night sky.

All systems were offline it would seem, not even the scarab appeared inactive. This freak accident allowing a secondary random occurrence to take place without detection. The sky seemed to change through the span of a cloud, the sun was risen further and instead of barren lands below, buildings loomed all around. A Gothic style to the city design though at this distance it was still to hard to tell. The time was short but the fall was far enough to offer some recovery before entering the city air space. Jaime felt agonizing pain all over but the suit had taken most of the blow, nothing was broken, but a lot was bruised. He could see clouds passing as he fell and his mind slowly began to come back to him. The first thought being ‘I kind of sounded like a whiny girl before that…THE PLANE’. He was in the sky, not just that but plummeting! Seeing the first sign of buildings around him he knew he was ever so close to the earth. ~Prepare for impact~ oh good, god forbid the impact knocked the voice out of him. His wings shot out and his speed slowed greatly, but not enough, it would be a rough landing.

Still falling at a great speed, though it was decreasing, Jaime did not have the control to maneuver much, and so his first time in Gotham was to be a rude one. He hit the dirt rolling head over heels for what seemed like minutes. Coming to a halt when he hit a tree, fortunately it was the least painful impact of the whole night. Laying on the ground, he let out a groan that also felt as though it lasted for longer than it did. Ever muscle burned, ever cell felt bruised, and each joint was just glad to be in the same place it was only moments ago. He was alive, and surprisingly well off for what had occurred, though he doubted he would move for a long time, not wanting to dare the pain of using his muscles. “Ok….maybe..we can come to some kind of compromise…” he wheezed and as he lay sprawled in the grass, leaves from impact, and the bunched up soil. He really wished he had not gotten out of bed that morning. Very much unaware, and at the moment uncaring that he had found his way into the lost city of Gotham.

—-trigger warning for violence.

It was going to be another long night for STAR LABS, as an experiment had gone terribly wrong, and a fire had started on the third floor of the building. Things were handled and taken care of as far as stopping the fire’s spread was concerned- the automatic sprinklers had done well to take care of that with the help of the Gotham City Fire Department. However, after the GCFD’s exit and everything else settling down, it was time to fill out paperwork, clean things up, and make sure that everything was in order for the following day’s experiments. Elaina Ironside was present at her desk, doing just that. She’d only recently gotten off the phone with her husband, Gil, and was setting back into filling out the remaining paperwork with the door to the lab clicked open, and the woman lifted her head to see a second woman entering the room.

Long, pale legs gave way to a pair of white shorts that fit snug to the woman’s hips, somewhat covered by the jacket that clung to her frame. A jacket was strange, in the middle of summer, especially one of such thickness. As Elaina tried to find the words to speak past her confusion, the woman turned her gaze on her. The color of her eyes was breathtaking, haunting even, a bright cerulean blue that seemed to almost glow against the pale white of her face. Long, dark locks spiraled around her face, a thick mane of hair that gave the woman an alluring quality.

“…Can I help you?”

”Perhaps.” The voice of the other woman was a low purr, something short of a devious smile pressing her lips as she turned, ankle-high boots clicking against the ground as the stranger turned her direction. Elaina, ever the trusting and good natured soul, tilted her head slightly, as if waiting for the woman to continue as she proceeded across the lab to her. ”I’m looking for something. More specifically, someone. Your cryotechnics specialist.”

“I’m sorry, he’s gone home for the evening, would you like me to relay a message for him?”

”No, no. I merely needed to pick up something from him. Would you happen to know where his lab is?”

“It’s currently closed for the evening, perhaps if you were to come back tomorrow-“

”Are you able to get in?”

“-well, yes, but I’m not a technician for that lab-“

”Then why don’t you take me there?” She was leaning over Elaina’s desk now, ”I’m in somewhat of a hurry, you see.” Her grin stretched, and as she lifted a hand, pale fingers outstretched toward the gentle, pretty face of Elaina. Elaina felt her chest tighten, and her breath catch as fingers like ice grazed her jawline. When Elaina hesitated, the woman seemed to loose her patience, and let loose a hiss of a threat; ”Wouldn’t want anything to happen to that pretty face of yours, would we?” She was circling the desk now, and Elaina’s frame grew rigid as the woman’s cold hands pressed down on her shoulders, her face leaning down next to her own.

“Security will be here any moment, I have to ask you to leave.” Despite her attempts to sound brave, to sound confident, her voice trembled and shook. She could feel the cold seeping past the lab coat and then her blouse. From the corner of her eye, she saw the pale hue of the woman’s skin slowly fading into a soft blue.

”I’m afraid security is a little busy at the moment.” As if on cue, a pair of chilling howls rose into the air, followed by the soft taps of gunfire in the distance. Not soon after; screams and snarls. Cold fear- literally and figuratively- gripped the kindhearted woman as she felt the cold seeping through her skin and into her bones. She was starting to shiver, to tremble, as she felt the cold slipping through her bones and body.

Like clockwork, the stranger’s hands lifted from her shoulders, and Elaina’s body began to move on it’s own, out of her control.

“N-no! Wh-what are you doing-” There was a soft, yet frigid laugh behind her, as the stranger waved her hand dismissively, and Elaina moved forward through the lab. “Who are you, why are you doing this to me?!”

”Killer Frost.” The other woman purred. ”… And because you’re a means to get to an end.”

As Killer Frost and Elaina made their way to the fourth floor of S.T.A.R. Labs, a whole other scene was beginning to unfold in the lobby, where two hulking frames on four legs lingered and paced the bloodstained lobby. Their pants and snarls escaped into the air as frosty breaths, paws hitting the ground softly, the sounds of their icy claws filling the air. Gray-colored fur stood on end as the Alaskan Malamutes prowled through the lobby, the color in their eyes glazed over and the tips of their fur frosted with flakes of ice. Saliva mixed with blood to run down their maws, black lips curling back into harsh growls. In the dim light of the frost covered lobby, the two, large canines lurked, waiting to intercept anyone who dared enter to interrupt.

Across the lobby, and through the halls of the labs, were a mess of blood splattered walls, broken glass, and the bodies of security and the poor, unfortunate souls whom has decided to work late. The emergency alarm was already sent to Gotham City’s Police Department, but even they would have a hell of a time getting past the doors that had been frozen shut.

And even then, two hungry mouths waited for flesh to tear into.

A day. What is an average day in the life of Bruce Wayne? People outside of his everyday life would think of him as a lazy boy who was able to get everything he wanted through his father’s company. At times, caught sleeping through very serious board meetings. People would almost think he didn’t give a flying crap about the company and all the work his parents put into it. No. No that was not the case. It was actually quite the opposite. The corporate assholes who took partial control of the company were enough to bore the ill-mannered millionaire. They were boring, the lot of them. Telling him rules and guidelines on how to run the family company. He was still on top. Others always tried to take the reigns, but all of the paperwork still held his name.

Today was a simple day. Having to sit through another boring meeting about stopping money transfers to certain areas of Gotham was far out of the question. In the end, it was always up to Bruce. Other men within the workplace kept trying to state good reasons as to why they should cut the costs and save more for themselves. Bruce did his best uninterested face and continued to listen. Once all words were said and done, he could only shake his head and say that things remain the same. Honestly, he didn’t see how losing a few dollars to help a few shelters was a bad thing. Sadly, all that was on anyone’s minds these days was money and how much one man can gain. Granted, he was born with it, so he never knew the true difficulties and hardships to get the title he was born with.

In his trials before the late-night escapades, he was constantly pelted with guilt and the angry protests of strangers in need. Bruce knew there had to be more to his life than to run a silly company that had many men of the board’s underwear in a few knots. He was tired of it.

At night, it was always a different story. A new man. A mask.

Evening drew and the sun began to dissolve leaving a glossy moon in it’s place. Bruce Wayne had to make a small appearance at a small corporate party. Small was not entirely the word for it. A few several hundred people were lines around, talking to one another or swaying a merry dance to the music playing around the marble halls. Wayne himself arrived with a pair of beautiful models. Both he had met a few days ago. it was a quick offer, but he always likes to show some girls a good time. Small greetings were exchanges and a few hours passed. The arm candy had fled the party long ago. Wayne had the rest of the night to himself.

With a cold grin and a brisk leave of what was left over to the little party, Bruce took his vehicle and made his way back home. A swanky little mansion. All too big for one man and his butler to take on, but Bruce grew all too used to it. On occasion, he’d bring a guest over… Sometimes two.

Tonight, he had other plans. Making his way to the family library that resided to the back of the house, there was a quaint piano that sat beside a near by bookshelf. He played a few simple keys in an off tune. Seconds later, the bookshelf swayed itself open, showing a small lift to carry anyone further under the home. Stepping in, he rode the lift downwards to a very broad cave. Darkness save for a few lights beginning to charge on with moving censors. He knew this place inside and out. Bats whisked around the cave. It being their home and his little hide-away.

The lift itself stopped and Bruce quickly made his way towards the largely set computer at the center. A sigh of relief left the billionaire’s lips. He was happy to be home. Alone with his mind to think. Sitting down, Wayne began to do a bit of research. Some minor things were happening throughout Gotham, which, in most ways one would find to be a good thing. To Bruce, he was all the more bored. He wanted to help others and do things. He felt like he was going a little crazy in his life as a Wayne.

A tilt to the site and letting his fingers brush through his slightly oiled hair, a small scanner upon the screens indication there was a lot of chaotic readings down by the docks near Cape Carmine. Bruce leaned in further in his seat and played with the computer settings. With a bit more of a read through and a small soundboard of a Gotham Police Officer calling in the mess. A heist was happening. Stepping up from his seat, the man hurried his way to the iconic Bat-suit that hung up at the ready at all times. With a few moments of changing, Bruce was no longer the well dressed, business man.

With a well fitting suit, bat icon to the chest and a well formed cap draping over his shoulders, he was what the city claimed as The Batman.

With a rush to the computer console, Bruce made sure he got his information right. Yes, there’d be some traffic, but he’d get by. With the click of a button to the side of the console, Bruce leaned in to speak. “Alfred, I’ll be back in a few hours. If you need to keep track, it’ll be on the news.” Quickly, he released the button and ran to the tumbler at the edge of the cave. With several beeps and a closing of the upper hatch, the vehicle rolled out of the cave through the shade of the waterfall and out into the streets of Gotham.

————————-

Minutes passed and the streets were signed off to the public. Bruce parked several ways away and moved to the rooftops. Every so often a chopper would roar by and over his head. He didn’t care too much at this point. He wanted to stop this little gunfight. More were in danger with every passing second. It needed to be stopped, not made into a public theater. Often times, officers of most any would stand by, trying to figure what would be best to go about this route. batman did what they couldn’t and went in head first. Though, it never hurt to have a plan. With gadgets and weaponry to help him, Bruce was prepared to deal with a few thugs.

The gunfire was consistent as ever. The constant rat tat tat tat would bounce off the walls and meet with most ears and proved a sort of echo. They had a lot of weapons. This suit was going to be pretty dented when all is done. Mentally, he prepared himself. Knowing there were men who needed help, or just needed a good kick in the ass. Whatever the case, Bruce felt prepared to handle it. It would all be a matter of disarming those with weapons and taking them out.

Nodding, Batman prepared to make the turn, gloved hands gripping tightly to the wheel. With a push of the break and a swift twist of the wheel, Batman revved his vehicle to full, speeding down the vaguely empty street except for the distant lights of gunfire and echo. Releasing a breath that was in holding, Bruce let his eyes close momentarily behind the mask. Just giving himself a little time to think. Sure, this wasn’t the most stealthy way of getting to the scene, but at the rate it was escalating, he had to move fast. Opening his eyes and preparing to move, what he saw confused him if not gave him a bit of a shock.

The battle was gone.

Just… gone.

The sounds of gunfire was no more. There was practically no sign of them or the scene that was at hand. Quickly pressing down to the break and skidding the batmobile to a stop, Bruce lept from the driver’s seat and ran over to where he had seen several men standing in an all out fight. Everything felt different now. The air seemed thicker. A sort of presence that gave even Batman a small discomfort. All the more reason to keep himself on his guard. Kneeling down to the sidewalk, he took hold of a worn newspaper having been bashed and beaten by harsh winds. Squinting, Bruce saw something off with a few of the readings. The date didn’t seem off, but what the paper had classed as news was all too different than what the paper had said that morning.

“Hm.” Getting to his feet, Bruce let his eyes wander and let his ears listen. Silence. Cold. A rapid wind. There’s a storm on the way. Something else that was not on he forecast for that day either. Running back to the batmobile, he lept into the seat and let the doors close. Pressing a hand to the com-link, he called home. “Alfred.” He called in and waited several seconds for a reply. Instead all he got was silence and an added static that peaked with each second of holding down the button. He let go and pressed down again. “Alfred?” This time, his tone had hints of worry for his old friend. The static showed signs that his call was reaching no one. The link had been severed.

Just what is going on?

“Go back to whence you came, demon!” Sounded a powerful yet feminine voice, accompanied with the whir of a lasso, which the woman circled over her head. In response, the ancient beast roared and charged again. It had two great horns, yet the body of a man covered in long hair. Where these ancient mythical creatures were coming from, she had no idea. They scattered the east coast, and she went from city to city to fight them. Its hooves thundered against the pavement of the street and Diana launched herself into the air just in time for the beast to pass beneath her, piercing the side of the adjacent building with its horns. As the beast unlatched itself from the wall, Diana threw the lasso, entangling the Minotaur within it.

“Where have you come from, beast?” Wonder Woman’s upper lip curled back into a snarl as she yanked the lasso taught, bringing him closer to her with her Amazonian strength. “Wouldn’t you like to kn—” It roared back, but it was cut short. “The portal.” It growled reluctantly as the lasso around him glowed brightly. “And where is this… portal?” The princess’ eyes narrowed, her gaze boring into the Minotaur’s dark black eyes. “It lies behind the memorial of the old man. Now let me go!” He struggled to no avail as Wonder Woman’s mind whirred. The old man? Oh! That must be Lincoln! Steve had told her about this man. After with the battle with Ares, the memorial had to be rebuilt. It must still house some of the war God’s power.

With a last punch to the head, Wonder Woman silenced the beast. For now, at least, it would not bother her. The Minotaur fell to the ground, the air audibly rushing from his lungs. Diana floated to the ground and picked up the beast easily, flinging it over her shoulder. Though her shoulder was not wide enough her arm wrapped mostly around its waist as she made her way down the street to her invisible jet that sat there. The authorities of this city had closed down this road when they realized that Wonder Woman was battling the beast mainly here. Her jet was large enough that it took up most of the road anyways. They wouldn’t want any cars to run into the invisible plane.

Throwing the beast into the back of the cockpit, she climbed in after it. Though it took up most of the area, it was not that much larger than a normal-sized man. It wasn’t long after taking off that she arrived at the Lincoln memorial. She threw the Minotaur out of the jet and onto the soft grass, jumping down after him. Picking him up once again, she walked the short way around the large monument to the back, avoiding meeting strange looks. Though the populace was beginning to get used to the half-naked woman fighting crime around these parts, they were not used to seeing other mythical creatures. The hairy Minotaur was definitely a sight to behold, slung over Diana’s shoulder.

Just as she rounded the corner, she stumbled, throwing the beast off her shoulder. What was going on? She was an Amazon! Amazons did not just stumble! There was a pulling sensation just behind her navel and she found herself falling completely to the ground in the middle of a street. What was going on? This was not Washington! A car swerved out of the way to avoid hitting the beautiful woman that stood in the middle of an intersection. Others honked. She just glanced at them before taking to the sky. She was going to find out what happened. She did not just teleport. She either ran or flew to various destinations. Even if she possessed the power of teleportation, she would not just teleport against her will. She had a job to do, and she intended to finish it.
